I guess the common denominator is ample ass end, with lots of mids as well. When you can hear the bass part really clearly, it just adds so much more of a counterpoint to a tune.. makes the entire piece more complex and interesting. I know you can hear most any bass line if you listen, but I for one don't mind being hit over the head with it.
