top plate design

    To make soundpost-setting easier, why don't carved top plates have a small flat spot left below the bridge foot?

    Does the top need to be glued to the corner blocks or can they be trimmed short so that the glue line is just the width of the linings and ribs? Would that have a positive effect on tone?
