I used to go down to Hamilton Pool, they had squirrels there that were very brave. Some would say even brazen! They'd come up to me, maybe 4-5 feet away, and chatter with me, trying to determine if I was a good human or a bad human. Any sudden moves and they would dash off into the rocks. One was extra-brave, and got to within a foot or two...I could have easily grabbed him. Once that close, I shared some of my trail mix, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I gave him a slice of apple, he took that and ate half of it, then carried the other half off into the rocks someplace, returning a minute or two later, chattering for more. The funniest thing I have ever seen a squirrel do is try to eat a grape! They peel them, rotating them in their little hands like a basketball player, then pop the peeled grape into their mouth, on one side or the other. Give them a couple more, and they'll look like they swallowed miniature cannonballs!! They love 'em! I had this one take about 10-12, he actually ate more than half of them, then hid the rest somewhere...won't he be surprised when he goes back and only finds raisins!!!
