That first step is a doozy ...

Today was my birthday so I skipped work and went to Culross, a small town on the north bank of the river Forth.
My girlfriend used to visit here often when she was little, so knew the place well. When she was a kid there would often be coal trains running along this railway line to the power station in the distance. There wasn't a tall fence on the right at that time either, so she would cross the track wherever she wanted to. Judging by the surface of the rail head there hasn't been a train here in a while, but I still feel a prickle of uneasiness standing 'in the four-foot' of what is still a potentially live railway line.
Culross is built on quite steep land, so the roads look like this!
...and the palace is a vivid yellow colour, offset with orange tiled roofs.
It almost reminded me of being somewhere more exotic than central Scotland, but the strong cold wind kept me right.
These were all taken with an iPhone 8. The camera adds an 'HDR' effect when it feels like it, and the pictures have a slight silvery quality to them. I took the photos as squares in case I decide to Instagram them at some point.

BeautifulAbout 5 years we had a Killing Frost, well into April.
It completely destroyed several (5?6?) azaleas that had been planted well before we arrived in 1999.
We thought this one was gone, too...but it’s come limping back each Spring.
