what a great bunch of pictures/eye candy! love them all. some of them seem 'too good' to be taken with a phone: is that because of camera settings, type of phone, or both?

i hate to admit this, but i actually forget that i even have a camera in my smart phone! (age/era related ignorance!) this thread has inspired me. ha!

Bone stock Galaxy S6 set to "Auto". None of these photos were edited or enhanced in any way. The long skinny ones are "panoramic" which simply means you can slowly "swipe" the camera across the landscape and, if you do it steady enough, the camera will capture whatever it passes by and tie it all together.

You inspired me to prove it. I have the day off and traveled about an hour or so to handle some family business. There is an area I have been meaning to stop and smell the roses in for a long time. Halifax, NC. There's an overpass and a deep gorge (by our Coastal Plains standards anyway) that I have wanted to explore. Phase one.....

Which led me to ignore this....

Then I proceeded into town. Many don't realize that the Declaration of Independence that was signed by all of the now-famous founders was not our first. North Carolina told England to go stick it in April of 1776, a few months prior to the rest of the country joining in later that July. Many of the structures still stand there. I wandered through Historic Halifax and the surrounding woods and snapped a few more....some historical in nature and some nature in....nature.
The spot where it all happened is marked with this stone....

But around the marker are these crazy cool trees with really unusual patterns in the wood.

Then I ignored this.....

.....to get to here....

....and went for a hike. I needed both hands to navigate the steep terrain so no pics for a half hour or so. I did find this.....

......really old SunDrop bottle (and took it with me, of course).

As I was leaving I stepped up on a rather large pine tree. It's bigger than it looks. (Find the penny tucked in the bark.)

The snow pics are from last weekend, we drove up to Lake Tahoe for the day and went to Squaw Valley, took the tram to the top and snapped pics with phones and the dSLR. These were all taken with my LG Tribute HD.

I hope I can find the photo of the really weird temple house that opened to the canal with bars over the opening
they had a big Buddha set up just behind the bars, but far enough to be out of reach & it was obviously someone's home (really weird)

Skyline Drive is not far from me & it's basically a closed road w/o exits for about 30+ miles
it's quite common for folks to take a drive up there in the Fall
There are also many ski resorts just off the Skyline Drive & one of my Thai gal pals worked at one of those resorts for her internship in Hospitality.
