Totally amateur phone camera pics thread.

Just back from the Lake District, well just South of it. Cartmel village, home of L’enclume, Britains top 3 Michelin Star restaurant. We didn’t go but friends did and spent a ridiculous amount on their meal and wine.

If you don't like snakes, keep on scrolling! Also, spoiler alert, the deer dies. This is a fascinating post, but NOT A FUN ONE!

I had the WEIRDEST experience yesterday morning. I pulled into a town where I needed to do wome work, but I had a phone meeting before I could get started. Being a water junky and avid kayaker, I pulled down to the local waterfront on the river figuring I could just handle my meeting there and then drive over to the facility. I like to keep a check on water levels locally for my next day trip on the yak.

First thing I see is a deer. It trots across the river (only about "knee deep" at that point). When it gets to the other side, it turns around and comes back to the middle of the river and just starts frolicking. It wasn't startled. It wasn't flailing about. It was just sort of "playing" in the water (or so it seemed). I was fascinated and figured my daughters would love to see some pics/video of it. Here are the pics. I won't share the video because it gets morbid.

Turns out the poor thing was DYING right in front of me. Again, it didn't seem to be in any pain. But, apparently, I'm not a good judge of that kind of thing. Because then the thing just laid down in the water and died! It just floated away, occasionally moving for a minute and then.... gone. Baffled by this I walked down the river "following" it for a couple of minutes. Looking back at the pics, I can see that the deer wasn't in good shape. Did the poor thing die of old age right in front of me????

Then, something else got my attention at the water's edge. A water moccasin about 4 feet (1.2 meters) long was attempting to eat a fish that was WAY wider than the snake. I was amazed watching this process. I stood there for a few minutes and it didn't make much progress. I'm wondering if this didn't work out for the snake any better than it did for the fish (or the deer). The way this thing had expanded its jaw/head/face was CRAZY!

Sorry to get so National Geographic or "circle of life" on you.

I have to go back to that town this morning. I'm wondering what kinds of nature events I will come across today. :wideyed:

This was two of the weirdest things I have ever witnessed, and they happened within minutes/yards of each other.

Wow! Those are really great photos maybe worth scientific evaluation as part of a learning process for those in that type of industry those are great photos.

Just a "wild" speculation but I think maybe the deer was in the last throws of a disease affecting the brain (like rabies or something?). Maybe what the source of all the thrashing about was. The water was probably a calming place to be at the end? Again just speculation on my part.

Cool pics of the copperhead. Necessary part of the food chain but definitely learned to social distance from those guys long before I knew what that meant. And no, 6ft is not sufficient for me in most cases. I like 10 personally.

This guy was about three feet below my toes, but he seemed pretty occupied. I figured by the time he spit out the fish and headed for me I could make a break for it. :D

Could be. It was just a crazy scene. She trotted across the river initially as if nothing was wrong. Then she came back to the middle and looked as if she was calmly "playing". Then it got somber and weird from there.
