A dove hanging out on my garage roof:

We have a lone dove that comes to our house to drink pool water. A few years back, this same dove had a mate but one morning we found a dove's remains and feathers near the pool. We figure a cat or hawk killed its mate. Now my wife refers to the dove as the Lone Dove when it makes it visits to our house. I have been told that doves mate for life.

Sometimes, Yes. When I was an environmental vandal (read: tree lopper) that was how we'd removed large trees, the only difference being, is that we'd feed them straight into the Chipper. Usually the Nurseries already had mature trees in stock, so, transplanting such specimens from one yard to another was not economical,
