Yesterday was not my day. Within the span of thirty minutes, I:

Stepped in human poop without leaving my front yard;
Got water down my dishwashing glove;
Lost a spider into the depths of my washing machine.

Perspective, blastoff, perspective. You have clean water, and electricity, and enough food, and a roof over your head. Many people, including many US citizens, might not have electricity for months. Much of the world, including more than a few in the US mainland, lacks clean water. And the spider was neither poisonous nor especially large, so whatever.

Yeah but, poop in the front yard? Was KbD in the neighborhood?!?

I'm always amazed at the powerful way in which olfactory sensations can vividly trigger memories. Imagery which remains effectively suppressed suddenly springs into a detailed recollection, very nearly like suddenly "being there". Why are the other senses less effective at this?

Apparently I misunderstood a word today and I am not sure how I confused the word "vanilla" with the word "ketchup". They don't sound alike, but my wife said, "I like the soap in Aunt Curtistine's bathroom, it smells like vanilla." and I heard, "... it smells like ketchup." I couldn't imagine why anyone, much less prim and proper, total lady, Aunt Curtistine would have ketchup scented soap.
