1) Get a power inverter for your van, and make sure it's large enough to power anything you're going to plug into it (cell phone chargers, laptops, etc)
2) If you've got the room in the van, rent a small digital recorder thing and record some riffs while you drive. It's a great way to pass the time, practice your chops, and you might even come up with something cool.... We did this on our last tour and it was awesome.
3) Keep track of how much gas you use, so you can budget better on future tours
4) Febreeze your van daily. Don't buy air freshener, that just mixes with the nasty smells and makes them worse IMO.
5) Get in contact with some of the other bands you're playing with before you leave, and see if any of them are willing to put you up for night. It's a great way to save a ton of money!
6) MAPS! To and from each venue/city, BEFORE you leave! Google map everything!
7) Nail clipper.
8) Tools for adjusting truss rods/intonation if you're picky
9) I'd bring twice the amount of underwear you think you'll need. Plus spray on deoderant is always a good post-show coverup until you get the chance to change/shower.
10) Get an extra set or two of keys for your van cut, and make sure at least two people always have keys to get in.
IMO, there's no need to shave on tour... And wearing the same sleeveless shirt for days at a time is perfectly ok
