Trace Elliot AH500-12 Head

Hey everybody, I'm interested in the new TE amps (The ones now being built after Peavey bought them.) Specifically, I'm looking for the AH500-12 Head, which I see on their website, but can't seem to find at any of the online retailers. I see the AH1000-12 head, and the AH500-12 as part of a 2x10 combo, but nowhere just the head itself! Anyone know where I could pick one up?

Yeah, the only reason I'm not after the combo is because I prefer to match up my own cabs, and plus I'm a sucker for 12's. To afford it I'll undoubtedly have to sell my YBA200, which I love, but the Trace quite literally has *everything* I have even wanted in a bass amp in one package.

I recently bought an older Trace GP 12 SMX preamp from another Talkbasser - it sounds great and has most of the same features that you're considering. You might have to search for a while, but you can probably pick up a used one, with a power amp of your choice, for less $ than the new heads.

The new Trace stuff is seriously pricey - I was suprised - the older (solid state or hybrid) gear is a lot more affordable. I can't comment on the sound of the new stuff as I haven't played it, but the original pre-anyothercompany Trace gear is great.

Neither the older Trace gear nor the Ashdown have the effects looping features I'm looking for. I'm just trying to source the AH-500, not find alternatives--unless there is another head out there with dual band compression, distortion and hi pass/lowpass/fullrange effects loops. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I actually don't necessarily need the overdrive as I already have some good distortion pedals. I see they have a few on Ebay. The only scary thing is going to be trying to sell my YBA200 and time it just right to get the SMX so that I'm not without an amp for very long.

i want reviews :)

do you think if you put the AH500-12 (or one side of the AH1000-12) on a berg NV610 it would be crazy loud?

I'm looking for too much volume here, not just "enough". Because when i have "enough" there will come a time its not enough.

and does it sound like the old trace gear at all? I've had old trace in the backline at many a gig and i'm a fan of what they do.

3 Potentiometers in my TE ah500 head are dead - input gain, drive and blend. Any idea what kind of potentiometers are used for these three? Because it seems I won't have a reply for my email by TE customer service... which i wrote like 3 days ago.
