I got a quick question my trace pre says series 6 gp12 on it but on the top it says gp12X so which one is it? oh and that reminds my my passive input doesnt work and the active input is kind of messed up it sometimes makes cracking sounds. Is it easy to replace them? can I just pull them out and then solder new ones on or should I take it to a shop?

By the way, if any GP12XV owners out there will chime in... how many preamp tubes in yours?

True? Not true?
I know my Aug. '90 XV has just one ECC83 (12AX7), and it sounds very cool as is.
I'm just wondering if there were differences within the model run itself.

Bigbajo60, that was probably me giving some misinformation on the two preamp tubes. I keep forgetting that the pre isn't the same as in the Twin, Quatra, and Hexa series heads.
The heads use two, the standalone pre uses one. Sorry.

So, what would the 2nd tube in those heads be for? A driver for the power stage or effects loop or something? It's interesting to me that there'd be that difference...
