Tracy Wormworth and Christmas Wrapping!

Call me late to the game, but I am just hearing "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses for the first time right now. Yes, I was very much alive and old enough to have heard it back in the 80s, but it slipped by me.
Tracy Wormworth is KILLING it on this song.
Actually though, it's not surprising. She is a groove machine.
On a really positive note, I'm glad to know that there's still great songs to discover from music's greatest decade...

It's my favorite "non-traditional" Christmas song, and the bass line is awesome! I always set out to learn it by ear every year, get about halfway through (+/-), and then Christmas is over and I shelve it until the following Christmas season.

BTW, there was a thread a while back about this song, and Tracy herself chimed in.

I especially like the sound of her Pbass on this track. So 80’s New Wave. Really shows the influence of Disco /funk on the genre. Tracy said herself in interviews that she got that Pbass from a boyfriend who was in a funk group. He taught her to play . When it came time to do Christmas Wrapping , Chic was very popular and Good Times was in heavy rotation on the charts. Her baseline was a direct result of wanting to capture Bernard Edwards style .
Chic especially Bernard Edwards is so underrated and just don’t get the recognition they deserve.

Listening to Christmas Wrapping this week is giving me gas for a maple board Pbass with rounds.

I had read that the bass-playing boyfriend may have been Marcus Miller. In any event, she certainly brung tha fonk on that track. I don't actually like the piece, I find the mumbling, running-on vocal style in the verses quite irritating but the bass playing is solid. It is certainly the standout bassline on a Christmas song!

While putting up our tree this year, we had a Christmas music channel going on the TV with it running through the stereo. You could really hear the bass line and yes, she is killing it on this song. Good stuff!
