trade or walk away?

A gentleman was selling this bass for $999 then dropped the price. It had a twist in the neck which was repaired and has five twist in the truss rod. The neck has been shaved, the preamp doesnt work and it has been painted. The fret board has a gloss clear coat as well as the neck. The seller is willing to put a noll preamp in the bass and trade for a germ an warick corvette 6 in excellent condition. Is this a fair trade?

My first thought would be Absolutely Not... I'd walk without hesitation. But that's just me.

No don't bother with the trade. IMO aside from the issues that were apparently 'fixed', there's still truss rod issues and he totally botched it with the finish. Ovankal and Wenge are oily woods that look great and function well in their natural oil finishes. I don't think they will age well in the paint finish...especially one that's uneven as well. Probably no suitable base coat. I doubt it was professionally done. Hold out for a bass that has no issues like your own.
