The amount cash I spent on MTG must be counted by hundreds, lots of hundreds. More if you consider the hotel and what not for when I was going to PTQ's and PRE's.

I still enjoy it and draft once in a while with some friends that are still playing. I'd still play it actively if it wasn't so expensive to be and stay competitive in T2, and I never really liked older formats as it was 1) Really expensive to get into (damn lands, wishes, thermagoyfle, mox, lotus, ancestral waaaaaaaat) and 2) It was recipes.

also magic came out in 1992 as far as i recall and thats beta, not alpha. so thats well before pokemon was even concieved

FWIW I'm not at all opposed to these games,...never got into them myself,...but I'm non-judgmental either way.

I always wished that the mini card game Triple Triad (from Final Fantasy 8) was available for real trading/playing, but it was very limited edition. If you're not familiar with it, it's kind of like Othello/Reversi with cards on a 3x3 board. You try to flip your opponent's cards with higher numbers. Additional rules make it very tricky. Brilliant game, and if it had been distributed appropriately, probably could have taken off mainstream. I'm still finding it a challenging and exciting game to play. There are a number of online versions still going since 1999!

MTG and DND? Totally different games. I messed with both, but MTG was my main game for most of my gaming life.

DND is more flexible depending on your DM. I recall a story of a troll beating a guard to death with a fish and wearing his face as a mask. But I digress.

Similar settings, different games. I'd still play if I had people to play with, but like others have said, the cost is astonishing.
