"Trading Up" Fodera Question

Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to jump on a new Fodera. I really like the instrument, but it is not a "custom" bass in the traditional sense (it's a standard, I didn't order it from them directly). I'm fairly confident I'll want Fodera to make my first five string bass.

Does anyone have experience with trading in their Fodera for the discount on a custom bass (Standard Trade-Up Program) ?

I still need to do plenty of research, but this program seems like an amazing way to get something truly special. I don't know if I'd be better off selling the standard I have and getting an older used Fodera (pre 2009 era). Thanks!

I am not a Fodera owner, but from what I know, they work closely with the customer. Make a list of what you like and dislike about this bass, and that will be a good guide for you.

In addition to the obvious $$$$, I think they have an approximately 2 year lead time currently.

It’s always a better deal to get a nice used instrument, but will it have what you want? I got my Emperor standard used and it’s great. I would love a narrower and flatter neck and different pickup positions. Chances are vanishingly small that I will find that exact configuration used.
