Transition Lenses

Has anyone used these before?
Would love to hear the good and the bad about them.
I usually get prescription sunglasses as well as a normal pair but my new insurance only covers one pair.
Thought going the transition route would solve the issue.

I have only good things to say. The transition is very quick. I'm wearing them in my avatar pic.

I've been looking into them as well (pun intended). Good to know you like them. I'll have to give them a shot.

Regular Transitions don't get dark enough when you're inside a car. I currently have Xtractive Transitions and they do get dark enough to be usable for driving. It takes longer for them to go clear and they don't go fully clear but I highly recommend them.

My last pair were polarized Transitions. They were okay but not worth the upcharge.

Also - transition to dark when entering sunlight is quick, but transition back to clear when going indoors is quite slow. I usually end up wearing clip-ons anyway for this reason and the car one mention by elgecko.

If you go indoors but with a lot of lighting such as a mall do they go dark?

Not unless there's UV, that's (I believe) what triggers them. Regular artificial lighting doesn't generally trigger them. "True sunlight" lighting may, but I doubt even that has enough UV.

How about when watching tv in the house with sun coming into the room?

I havent' had any issues. I can't say if they get darker in that situation or not.

I love mine, however, as a person who drives for my company often I can say that they are a poor substitute for driving sunglasses. They don't get enough direct light to make them effectively dark for driving glasses.

They're no substitute at all for regular sunglasses while driving.

The thing I don't like about them is they're always "on" when you're outdoors. Sometimes I don't want to look like I'm wearing sunglasses.

Also, unless they've improved in the last few years, the lenses tended to turn from clear to a little yellowish over time.

Because the only reason I have for wearing darker lenses is polarizing, I've never had a reason for transitional lenses. That is what my iris is for.

Irises can only do so much. Look up snowblindness.

Yeah. That's why I use polarized prescription sunglasses.

I have been wearing my current pair for about two years and report none of the difficulties noted above. I drive with them, have fun in the sun with them, sit in rooms where sunlight streams in, and have seen no yellowing of the lenses.

I have worn them in a box.
I have worn them with a fox.
I have worn them with a ham.
I like them just fine, Sam-I-am...

Yes I have them they work quickly and aren't too dark, but they are no substitute for sunglasses will driving the protective coating on windshields today doesn't allow them to transition in the vehicle only downside.
