This summer I plan on taking a trip to Australia. You know go around enjoy the scenery. I also wanna have a decent amount of money to spend when I get there, so I wanna "pinch every penny." Which brings me to the question I want to ask. What is the cheapest way I can get there? (besides swimming) Thanks
Basically flying is your only option. If you want to catch a boat, it will be expensive, way more expensive than flying, unless you put yourself in a cargo container with a bucket and a whole heap of food and water (not a good idea). Its not that expensive to get a return ticket from LAX to SYD. Keep an eye on the exchange rate, right now, the AUD is up against the USD, meaning that you will get less AUD for your money, but its still advantageous (about $1.30 for every USD). However if it drops away, its like an extra couple of percent savings! Other than that, try and mooch as much as possible!
I want to goto australia too. Seems like a good place, friend of mine is out there right now, I haven't heard from him in a while though, probably got eaten by a wallaby
Given a collegues personal items took 2 months to ship from New York (a longer route) and then spent 1 month sitting in Customs on the docks, you might want to consider another option. Otherwise, you better take a heap of porn with you too!
If you want a "cheap" holiday, I recommend Bali. Australia won't be cheap but be warned, you won't want to go home. My tips, fly in, then go about getting the cheapest accom you can. Maybe a backpackers hostel. You'll have to share a dorm with strangers but for what they charge, you can save a small fortune. Plus it usually turns out to be a good way to make travel buddies. How long are you plannign to stay? Which parts of Australia are you interested in?
Yeah here's a tip learn their lingo so you fit in with boys Here's a couple lines of greetings that you can use: " Bloody oats mate where you from " " Fair Dinkim pal " " By crikey mate Ta " " G'day mate " And when you meat girls use your accent so that they know you're not from Australia they LOOOOOVE strangers
I always thought it was cheesy when a tourist tries to fake the local accent and speak slang. It's not like they are fooling any locals. When I go anywhere with a unique accent, or lingo, I just keep my vanilla USA speech habits. -Mike
Nice try. The "Oats" one make me laugh no matter how many time I see it. As pointed out, it's "Bloody Oath". And don't say "Pal" at the end of a sentence. Over here it kinda turns whatever you said into fightin' words. The only Australian that says "Crikey" is Steve Irwin. You should know this before you come over.... no-one here likes him. He's an embarasment. On behalf of all Australians I'd personally like to thank you Americans for giving him a career. Melbourne Rocks! It's very different to Sydney but that's why I like it! Just don't come in winter. And bring an umbrella.
