Traynor TS-215 cab. What speakers to load?

I recently bought an old gray tolex Traynor TS-215 cab with blown mismatched speakers, Im guessing the speaker with the tiny square magnet is probably the original, the cab probably came with the low watt TS-50 B head. I have a couple old Deltalites in a 1968 Fender Bassman cab and was thinking about either switching those to the Traynor or buying another set of Deltas if I can find some used (hint hint).
Any ideas if those speakers would work for the Traynor cab? Its a sealed open cab front mount speakers with two ports and a wood support in the middle.

Measure the INSIDE dimensions. Then call these guys. They will offer you several options based on budget, physics, and tone/volume goals

Also to OP, don't forget those ports of they're there. There were two designs made - sealed and ported, I think the ts denoted "Thiele/Small", to mean it was ported. The original speakers were made by a defunct Canadian manufacturer named Marsland. The 15s weren't generally high regarded if I recall, but tbh it'd be cool to have one as a curiosity.

I've got the 115 version of the sealed cab and it works great with an eminence legend cb158 in it, but yours is ported so I'd be a bit hesitant to say "just buy a couple cb158s and put them in there."

Are those ports just holes in the baffle?

They did that way back in the early days of porting cabinets.

And sometimes today also, if the air mass inside the port is not large. I can think of several modern designs that would work just fine provided the math works out. The higher air mass within the deeper port (of the same area) reduces the tuning frequency of the cabinet which is necessary for some drivers and undesirable with others based on the driver's TS parameters.

If the math works out. The OP has a couple of deltalites that would probably work well in that cab if the ports were sealed. I'm making a ballpark estimate that the volume is around 6.5 cf based on 3/4 ply. Be a great sounding 4 string cab.

Oh, I think you might want to do the math before recommending this (even for a 4 string).

IMO, a terrible choice for a bass guitar sealed box.
F3 = 96Hz (yes 96Hz, almost an octave higher than what's possible with a properly ported cabinet with this driver)
F6 = 69Hz
F10 = 48Hz
Average sensitivity between 50Hz and 5kHz = 96dB/1w/1M
Power handling (for a 215) is 300 watts RMS above 55hz. This is significant because on a very bass shy box, every db of low frequency eq will cause a drop in effective power handling. A 3dB LF shelving boost would reduce the power handling to 150 watts. IF a steep HPF was available, this could be made a non-issue but that's like putting a bandaid on an amputation.

I hate reading this thread... I just bought an old plush 2x15 cab and was planning on throwing a couple Kappalite 3015s in to the cab just to see how it sounded. (Non LF)

I've also got some JBL E140s and a pair of D140s that might be better suited for my application. Would those speakers be better for a cabinet like the OPs?

I came up with an F3 of 82Hz, F6 of 63Hz and F10 of 47Hz. But I'm using WINISD 950. 200 watts gives him 122 db at 100 Hz or thereabouts. Oh boy would he ever need a high pass filter.

The consideration is using the existing box and existing drivers. That box might be too small for vented deltalites.

Exactly.
The 158 prefers a larger box.
But all around it's relatively forgiving to most 15" boxes. Even in your YS15 that is technically to small. It's still an option.

There is a few Eminence drivers I've stuffed into alot of cabinets and heard across the board. So I'm realatively comfortable recommending them.

Good memories with the Traynors man.
I use to pick up the 2x15 cabs used all the time cheap in the 90s. I'd blow the wimpy marsland speakers often. And just buy more cabinets used and steal drivers from the ugly ones and load up my 2 pretty 2x15s. At one time I had 4 to 5 YS cabinets laying around gutted for drivers.
I've had anything from CTS to Marsland to Eminence Gamma 15A loaded in my good old traynor 2x15 cabs

Luckily the pro series and Neos these days are way way above those old 50 watt speakers lol. But even the cost Efficient old Eminence Gammas where a good option
