Traynor YBA100 and YBA200 users : what cabs are you using?

Hi there!

I’m thinking about trying (maybe renting) one of those or both to see if it would fit as a good lighter alternative to my SVT Classic and I wonder what cabs you are using with those amps?

Other question: how loud is the cooling fan in the YBA200 and is it always on?

YBA200 has a very quiet cooling fan. It’s been my go-to amp for some time now. I have it loaded with 6550’s. The preamp section is going to behave very differently from the SVT. It’s all passive, or cut-only, as far as I know. You can get a wide variety of tones, though.
It’s quite manageable in size, and the little rubber feet on the side are surprisingly helpful for loading and moving it around.
It fits beautifully on Eden cabs. I’ve used one or two 410’s for a number of band settings, including loud doom metal bands, and I’ve never had a problem keeping up.
You can get smoother, fuller sound, by driving the preamp at 3:00. But I also really like getting a lot of gain from the power section by keeping the preamp low and cranking the master volume. It’s really punchy that way.
Also, there’s a lot of low frequency control to be had using the “resonance” knob. some cabs prefer more, some prefer less.

I all ready tried the 100 and quite liked it. I just thought it wasn’t all that loud, but if it also has a cut only EQ, that might explain things (since I’m used to set all knobs in the middle and start from there).

You’re the second person who tells me the fan is quiet. Nice to know.

I guess I won’t have a choice and I’ll have to drive to a store that has a YBA-200 in stock to try one then!

I ordered a YBA100 12 days ago and it just got here today. I have it connected to my Subway 215 (4 Ohms) and it's quite loud so ill be taking it to band practice tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
So far, it kills, imo.

As far as I can tell the eq is not passive (its not cut only) and it is fairly malleable. The deep button is a scoop and the bright button is a treb boost. The resonance button appears to function as a high pass filter but I couldn't say at what freq it cuts off.

Initially I thought it wasnt loud enough so plugged into the passive input, that made a big difference. After playing for a while I dont think that's necessary but there is a little headroom there to play with.

I have no negative comments about this amp, very glad I got it.

I run a YBA100 through a Darkglass DG212n cab. It’s powerful, but on bigger or outdoor gigs, I use a Mesa Buster through an Avatar 410.
Both rigs have a similar grind when driven hard, but the Mesa has more headroom.
I have about 1000 hours on a set of JJ 6L6GC tubes and they still look test and perform as new.
The bias system on the YBA seems to work well, but have not had any tube failures to test it with!
Overall, the YBA100 has been a reliable and great sounding amp.
The resonance control on the YBA100 is in the driver circuit and controls speaker damping.

I love my YBA100. I used it with a Traynor TC115NEO or two (now discontinued) Traynor DNBX12's as shown in the pic). Prefer the two 12s personally. Nice natural tube overdrive. A bit "farty" with one 15" cab, but no issues with the two 12s.

my yba 100 is on the top right. i need to have a hiwatt style traynor logo cut. it will be paired with a markbass 104hlf standard (getting white treatment). right now i run it with the pjb or genz benz uber.

Ive read many threads here and elsewhere that assert that 100 watts will not produce sufficent volume from an Ampeg fridge, especially when playing with a drummer... Im inclined to agree.

However, here's one workaround. I've added a compressor and sansamp in the effects loop of the YBA100. I use both quite moderately and find the volume increased by at least 2-3 digits on the master volume dial. More aggressive use of can easily increase the volume 4-5 digits on the master volume. Its capable of sounding huge and very loud indeed.

The comp and sansamp each have a bypass as well, so I can choose not to use them any time if I want the sound of the rig otherwise unaltered. The "drive" on the sansamp, when pushed, adds significant distortion and i seldom use it.
