Treat tinnitus by re-tuning your brain?

Ya, this isn't particularly new - they've been doing testing on this for at least several years now. They're finding that mixing the tone with music is even more effective. The bad news is that it costs thousands of dollars, and your insurance won't cover it ...
 
There's a PhD at UCSF Med Center that runs a tinnitus clinic in the audiology program. A few years or so ago he developed a software program to teach how to pay better attention to what you want/need to hear and thereby ignore everything else. Not sure where this stands at the moment, but was the best game in town at the time. It's a pain in the neck and always seems worse after jammin'.
 
That would be great, any relief would be welcomed.
Living with tinnitus is a daily nightmare.
My main relief is going to the beach and have the sound of the waves
cancel out a lot of the 8Khz pitch I here constantly.
Turn down those damn amps.
