Treble boost noise

What kind of noise are you hearing? What kind of preamp is in the bass? Is it a really high-pitched hiss, or is it a hum? If it's a hiss, it's likely just the frequency value that the manufacturer chose is higher than you'd like, and boosting it is causing you the hear the ambient 10+kHz noises that are almost always going to be there. If it's a buzz, it could be some pickup hum (like the 60-cycle of single-coil) that your preamp is boosting.
