Tremolo pedals and who use them ?

Hey folks.

I have been enjoying more and more Tremolo on my Tone, especially for Slow Blues/Rock/Surf Basslines, and was wondering if you had any recommendations for pedals and also if any of you used some ?

The Vertigo from SA looks nice, but maybe you get some insight, I have the feeling not so many people use tremolo, but IMHO it seems to work well with Bass. Cheers !

i use a tremolo occasionally. Mostly it was Boss SL-20 Slicer. It covers my needs mostly.

I use an old Boss TR2 from time to time, mostly with my bass vi. It goes from warble to full chop and can be had for very cheap used.

Juan from pedals and effects on YouTube does some sick stuff with tremelo. Like using a tremelo after the micro synth or fuzz to chop up the sound like a sequencer on a keyboard. I just never really got into tremelo because i prefer having small board (pt mini). if I was going to use a tremelo I probably wouldn't use it by itself and there's only so much room for pedals.

I love tremolo. I've only owned the Tremolessence, which is fantastic and so flexible. Great pedal. I only sold it because I knew I go the multieffect route later and get an H9Max, which can also do what I want.

Edit: oh, I also had a Source Audio orbital, which could do tremolo, but I wasn't a fan.

I like the tiniest hint of tremolo to put a little motion in the sound. For tremolo pedals, I use a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. It's modeled on the tremolo of an old Fender brownface amp. And it has an unusual and richer sound quality all it's own. Not your everyday garden variety (wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh) tremolo effect.

I've usually got it paired with an equally tiny hint of delay (Catalinbread Montevillian Echo) in parallel; or a touch of reverb (Iron Ether Nimbus Bass Reverb) in series with it as well.

Haven't seen a decent bass demo of the Pareidolia pedal. But here's a good demo/explanation of it with guitar:



Note: In case you're wondering, the latest version has been given a different paint job and knobs since the one shown in the above vid. But it's the same pedal.

I think it's in the vicinity of a tremolo- the Catalin bread valcoder mini? Used it once as a noise piece, for two knob pedal versatile in that it can do soft or hard chops and a decent depth of rate. Not sure is find a place for it in band board though..

I use an Acid Fuzz Repeater and couldn't be happier. The expression input over the rate takes it to a new level. The only negative I can say is that it colors the sound rather than chops it up. But my Idiobox Mad Dr Stutter, which did not color the tone, didn't have the musical juiciness of the Acid Fuzz Repeater.

I have a Moog MF-102 Ring Modulator, it does everything, even has a really nice drive in it. If the Minimoog one is anything similar, it will be pretty excellent too. if you can find a cheap MF102 secondhand then go for it, but they're a little pricey.

The Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird sounds amazing too, if I were looking for a tremelo now that's probably what I would buy.

i have a catalinbread tap tempo Semaphore on the way. i never reallyconsidered a tremolo for bass but i saw a band once where the bassist was using trem and thought it would make for a great effect.

I second the Moog MF-102, great for using CV to automate parameters.

The Malekko Sneak Attack however is just awesome. Combined with an EHX 8-Step makes patterns possible too!! Tap tempo with the lil buddy, and does much more.

Try running your trem into delay and vice versy!


I'm leaning heavily towards tap-tempo for my next trem pedal – it just makes the most sense to me – we are part of the rhythm section after all.

I use it mainly for ringing out and fading the bass out at the end of songs. Rarely turn it on Mid-Song. Mostly use it live to keep some noise going while in between songs to minimize dead space.

My RP1000 pedalboards have a few options that work well.

1. DigiTech Panner
Pans the sound from side to side. The speed controls how fast and the depth controls how much of the signal is panned.
2. DigiTech Tremolo
The Tremolo is a volume changing effect that can be heard on surf and country classics.
3. DigiTech ScatterTrem
The ScatterTrem combines two tremolos that are “out of sync” to produce an unpredictable scattered tremolo sound.

Oh i always have a tremolo on my board and its always been so.
Had a bunch of them, but my favorites are Ehx Ring Thing and the best Ehx Super Pulsar(tap tempo).

I actually like these more than the Strymon Flint i've also owned.
