Brother, I don’t know you from Adam, but just the vibe I get from your posts, I think you’re going into this with the right mindset. Having the very same bass that you’re looking at, I would say you’ll be pleased with it. Whether the Ray or the Tribby will be the keeper is up to you, your hands, and your ears. I see too many on here discounting the SUB series because they’re focused on what it isn’t. Play it and learn what it is, then decide for yourself.
Full disclosure, I don’t disagree that the Ray35 is an objectively higher quality bass. I’m just saying that IMO, the Ray5HH is an excellent instrument in its own right and especially at the current sale price, an extraordinary value.

Honnestly, if I like it, at that price, I might very well keep both.

And if I get the Ray bite, then I might sell it to finance a 34 or 35. :cool:

I've always thought it was a $300 bass with an inflated price, not a bad bass but...

Of those two, the L2500, of course...not even close.
Seriously, the better comparison would be L2500 vs Ray 35.
However, I would be remiss not to suggest the Reverend Thundergun...unless you're simply looking for a bargain bass...it's the best-kept secret in the bass world.
Impeccable quality, incredible tone.
Seriously, if simplicity is your concern, sell the G&L, forget about the Sterling, and go with the Thundergun...passive, pure and potent.
I'm betting you won't regret it.

I'm still awaiting the Ray5HH that I ordered from GC. They said around December 23...

I'm psyched with getting this toy. It'll be a good bass to experiment with.

I am at peace with buying this SUB version of a classic bass.
In fact, I now own 3 iterations of Leo Fender's creations: a P bass (modified Squier), a Sterling (SUB) and a G&L L2500 (Tribute). It's a pretty fun collection of cheap basses to own!

As for the Ray that I just ordered at 400$, I picked the dual humbucker 5-string version.
But if I were ever to shed 1000$+, it would be for a Ray34HH.
