Tricked Out Squier Club Part 2

It is the original Squier neck. I didn't find any Squier logos when I was looking online (I didn't look very hard either), plus I liked the way it looked with the Fender logo.

That's all good. I expressed my opinion a few posts earlier, but perhaps with some therapy I could get over it. :-D

IMHO, "re-branding" a Squier just contributes to the stigma of owning (or, Heaven forbid!, gigging) a Squier, when in fact it should be no different than owning a MIM, or any of the other "budget" basses, like some Ibbys, etc, etc.

If it's good, then it is good, and if it sucks, then it sucks, regardless of the name on the headstock.

As a matter of fact, I want everyone to think that Squiers suck in order to keep their price point in check... :-D. Easier for me to justify another purchase if necessary. Everybody please spread the word.

I have a situation where I put a Mighty Mite neck
on a MIM P bass.

I hand painted the Fender logo. Up close it is easy
to tell,

I later put that neck on a VM amber P bass,

I would just as soon have a Squier logo, but I don't
think I can draw one as easily as the Fender one,

Started as a regular black squire with white pickguard. I custom made the mirrored pickguard and replaced the original metal knobs with Fender amp style guitar knobs. I'm debating if I should paint the headstock black though. Once I have a few extra bucks the pickups are getting replaced.

Awesome thread! My VM jazz...just starting on the mods now...new pickguard, black control plate, hefty bridge, black tuners (not shown in pic, but I can take one)...predominantly cosmetic so far, looking at Audere pres based on past experience, maybe those Delano jazz pickup with the gigantic pole pieces (they sound HOT, been wanting to give em a spin)

Seriously tough to find a better canvas for modding...plays fantastic stock, and really fun to tool on.

Much better shots this time...Also, forgot to mention on my previous post - I also put some repurposed standard Jbass knobs on it, a black string tree, and pickup covers...Apologies for the noob mistakes in the first post, new member here and it's been ages since I posted in a forum - lesson learned!

Body up-close...only a touch of mis-match at the control plate/pickguard junction, but the black framing on the burst finish covers it up pretty nicely.

Dude, you can't just say "new tuners" & "new PG"! Throw us a frickin bone here! You have to tell people what brand, where you got them and how they fit / what you had to to make them fit! Inquiring minds want to know... like me, I've been considering a black pearl PG for my VMJ.

Tuners: Wilkenson black cloverleaf tuners (Link Removed) The mounting hole spacing is different, just required a couple minutes with the drill. Stripped a couple of the original fasteners, hence the mix and match black/original silver below.

Before anyone asks, no, the G-tuning machine does not overlap the headstock and hang off...but only by *this* much. These have huge mounting plates relative to the stock, but they fit fine.

Pickguard: Aftermarket jazz, black pearloid (Link Removed) Fit like a glove with the original pattern and control plate, but only because I swapped the control plate with an aftermarket jazz control plate, black (Link Removed)

So, what classifies as "tricked out"? I changed to flat wounds and added a bridge cover to my Matt Freeman squier....probably wait until I put a tort pickguard?

Hey this started as a $15 wreck of an affinity P bass bought at a flea market. The body was not plywood but had some scuffs and dings and some superglue spilled on it. I did a light sanding and rubbed out with car rubbing compound for a duller relic look. Replaced the strap buttons with Fender vintage style, the bridge with a Fender vintage bridge (my favorite), removed the cheap small tuners and drilled out the peghead for 11/16 size tuners, sanded the neck, rolled the fretboard edges, refinshed in rattle can nitro, installed the new Fender tuners and a vintage style string retainer. Used a chisel (delicately) and a Dremel to rout out the pickup cavity and installed a Fender Telecaseter Bass humbucker in the same spot as the old P Bass pickup. Used the electronics from the Squier VM TB that the pickup came from, had Pickguardian (beautiful work but slow) make me a BWB guard and - dang it, I love this bass. I have GHS flats on it and I get a great range of tones - no mud and it plays like a dream!

Here's my 2010 VM neck on a white,classic vibes Jazz. The Pups and controls are fender american (geddy). The pickguard - what the hell! The red is a '93 MIM defretted. Can I get a numbah?

My other tricked out squier is a standard precision special that I refinished the neck in rattle can nitro, rolled the fretboard edges, replaced the P and J pups with 1970's patent applied for Dimarzios, rewired with CTS 250k pots and a switchcraft jack. This is killer sounding bass. I use the P pup full out and use the J pup in combination with the tone knob for tone shaping. works great in my cover band since we do everything from Country to AC/DC.

Google bass parts resource, and once you're on the site look for Wilkinson black cloverleaf tuning machines. I've got more details/photos of the fit-up (as well as direct links for parts) on my follow up posts earlier in this thread.

I haven't completed my tricked-out Squier yet as I still need to make a new pickguard for it. However, I made room for and installed a Wilkinson 5-string P-Bass pickup, connected the electronics and strung it with D'Addario flats. It's fun!!!
