Tricked Out Squier Club Part 3

So I went for it and assembled the bass myself. It turned out pretty well! I’m just waiting for the 70’s Precision Bass TV logo waterslide decal to arrive and the tug bar.

The parts are:
Squier Vintage Modified PJ body
Badass Bass II bridge
EMG Geezer Butler PJ pickups
Fender Pure Vintage pickguard
Fender knobs
Copper shielding
Fender/Schaller strap locks
Allparts Japan neck
Gotoh lollipop tuners

well, I thought I would update my bass picture that got me a number in the Tricked Out Squier Club...

is now this:

It's the same neck, although it's been on several other basses between pics. Pickups and body are original. Bridge and guard and knobs are new. The wiring harness is V-B-T. Paint is Krylon Seaglass Satin.

Also have this:

I bought the body with the bridge on Reverb. The neck is a Squier VMP5 neck with sickers for inlays and the pickups are Wilkinsons and the pre is an Audere. This thing is heavy as heck but rocks.

I've had a Matt Freeman Sig P for a few years and absolutely love it. I don't feel that it requires any upgrades in any way but am curious if any of you have modded one and what was the outcome.

I have a modded one - only change so far is the pickup, which makes it into an absolute powerhouse! There's a singlecoil/series/parallel switch too, surprisingly varied tonal options

Considering throwing in some Ultralites, does anyone know if the 1 1/2" models are the ones these CV necks take?

Just a cosmetic modified which make the cheap bass look like expensive stuff.

This was a fun project. Bought an Affinity J Bass that had a shockingly good neck on it. I had an extra pair of humbuckers from a Fodera Monarch Standard and thought, why not? Sounds great! I routed the body out with a flathead screwdriver, a hammer, and a dremel tool. It’s not the smoothest. Wired each pickup to switches for individual series/single coil/parallel. And of course the mandatory tort guard. Everything else is stock.

So, you used the material from cutting out for the MFD pu and glued in a patch for the P-rout? Pretty stealthy.

I didn't, I actually bought it modded this way, but yeah - they did a great job, can only tell up close. Recently took it to my tech for the first time, and he was very impressed with the job they did (was impressed with everything actually, it took a set up great, lovely low action, he liked the bridge and said it plays like a dream).

Considering getting a stock 70s P as a stablemate to it now

Is it passive? The L-1000's had some interesting passive electronics and its sounds like that's what you have going on. I posted a schematic of an 80's L-1000 on the G&L thread (somewhere). I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, passive. Slightly different as far as I can tell, this one being series/parallel/singlecoil vs the Wunkay, which seems to have a singlecoil bass boost mode, and just one full humbucker setting.

Always wanted a Wunkay, after briefly owning an L2000, and this does scratch the itch well.

Wunkay? Not aware of that term or what it describes.

Don't know if it's an older term, but it's how I always heard the L-1000s referred to (1k = wun kay)

wilkinsons pickups ? how they sound ?

Really nice. The don't know a way to describe it other than I just really like them. I'm using them with an Audere pre so that colors them a bit, but they are clean and clear.

Dated 97' by the YN serial number on neck plate and date stamped on neck 1996
mods:

• Fender vintage threaded bridge
• Fender Reliced bridge cover and barrel knobs
• EMG Geezer pickups
• Tort pickguard had around from another project(fit well albeit the truss access)
• Black satin finish

I love me a threaded saddle bridge, they’re perfect on a P bass.

Not a flashy mod, but I just put a model J in my PJ squier. IMO a split coil J is an essential mod for PJ basses!

Different strokes for different folks. I've got 7 P/J's that have the bridge pickups un-wired. I have no love for bridge pickup's whatsoever.
