That's funny, I had it unhooked for a little while, up until last night. But it just seemed.... wrong. So I figured the price of admission would satisfy my curiosity. I'm normally a P bass guy, but this one kinda fell into my lap!

Hi guys,
I've followed this forum on and off for years. I hear so many people complaining that the original old Affinity tuning pegs are rubbish and they swap them out for the larger 18mm ones but I have to say that the tuners on mine are absolutely spot on - maybe I am lucky. I've had my Squier for 14 years and although I've painted it 3 times and changed the pick-ups, bridge and electrics, I have never changed the tuners. I've been tempted and have even purchased them but mine work really well, hold their tune and they are so light which makes my bass feel better. Sure, I check them regularly to make sure the 2 piddly little screws are tight, and they always are, so I've left them exactly as they are. I've used this bass semi professionally for over 14 years and although I have other basses, this is always my favourite go to bass. Just wanted to make this point because they make such a difference to the weight hanging off your shoulder for 4 hours and when you're in your 60's and still playing it makes such a difference.

I've had one in my P Bass for a few years. A big improvement over standard Squier but not as good as Fender 62 reissue. Nice sound but I always felt it was a little under powered - that was until I recently got the pick-up much closer to the strings and now it sounds powerful with much better presence. I was going to buy another Fender 62 pick-up but I don't think I'll bother now. Don't know about them in a Jazz but they are so cheap they have to be worth a try.
I really like that satin black finish. Nice mods. Nice finished product.

Found an old picture of some of my Squier's back 5 years ago when I started playing in a ZZ Tribute band.
I got the 50's CV 1st as old stock, cheap. Being impressed, I then started searching and buying up anything I could find w/ a Tele headstock. I'm amazed at the quality and how inexpensive I snatched them up for. The only improvement's that they needed were pickup upgrades. It's crazy what they are going for on the used market today.
All 6 of my Squier necks are very stable, level and a pleasure to wrap my hand around.

I had two musicians come up to me and try in vain to figure out how in hell I was getting such quality tone from this beast. I didnt give them all of my secrets but that didnt seem to matter to them as they werent buying any of it. They were adamant that my headstock Squier decal was applied to strictly mask off the magic. As if I were hiding an expensive classic in front of their eyes. They just wouldnt believe me and left unconvinced, I almost felt like a liar

I'll bet you are 1) a good player, and 2) run it through a nice sounding amp. With those 'bases' covered - what bass you play comes in a close third or at least a tie for second.

IMO, it just goes to show how you can take most any Squier and do a few mod's, especially pickup's, do a good setup on it and be able to make it sound and play like an instrument that cost sometimes 10 times as much.
All 5 1/2 of my Squiers play and sound as good as any Fender I've played. I do have a lot of experience in mod's and electronics I've learnt over 40 years.
I've got a question about the newer Squier Affinity PJ basses.
Ive got a MIJ geddy jazz bass neck which I love. I'd like to attach it to an Affinity P body but I'm worried that the neck won't fit because maybe the Affinity series bodies are a bit undersized? I was wondering if anyone has any experience with fitting fender necks to Squier bodies.

2011 Partscision bass. 2010 Black Squier Mike Dirnt body, 2011 Squier Classic Vibe maple 51' P neck, '04 American P pickup with S-1 Series/Parallel, CTS 250K tone pot/.047uF cap, Fender vintage tuners, Schaller 3D4 bridge, black pickguard, Peavey triangle string tree, ancient 50-105 Chromes. Not seen: custom neck plate. Plays and sounds so great! No need for an expensive P bass, this delivers.
2014 Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI. Black pickguard and pickup covers added as well as a 2nd string tree. Upgraded electronics: Duncan STC 2TC Blackouts bass/treble preamp, 500K CTS volume pot and rewired the strangle switch to do series/parallel for neck/middle and bridge/middle pickup combos. Also reversed the pickup switches so 'on' is towards the toes. Kalium 102 strings and bronze bearings on the bridge posts to make the bridge solid/transfer vibrations properly. This also plays and sounds really great, much beyond it's lower-middle 3-figure investment.

Once, just for fun, I tried to put the aforementioned Geddy neck on it. The neck pocket was way to narrow to accommodate the neck. That got me thinking that maybe the MIM bodies were just a bit undersized. Then I saw a YouTube video explaining the differences between Squier and Fender. The guy showed a Squier strat body next to an American one and you could see that the Squier was smaller and he also explained that they use less wood to help cut costs. So that's why I'm worried that if I get the Squier P bass and try to swap necks, it won't work.
Of course I could buy a warmoth body or a Fender replacement body but I was trying to think of a way to do it cheaply.

Oh wow...those HB1 are direct drop in’s!!! Those are the “long” reverse tuners? Did you call to special order? I didn’t see them on the Hipshot site.
Number not needed thanks. Just bought a black Squier Jaguar shortie. Now it wears Hipshot Ultralite tuners,
La Bella Low Tension Flats, Dunlop straplocks, Seymour Duncan pickups, Allparts vintage bridge with the "threaded" saddles and a Switchcraft jack socket. I had most of the parts in my parts bin, so not much extra expense.
