Tricked Out Squier Club Part 3

Hey guy's. So I sold my Millennium and bought a squier affinity jazz V to trick out. i got lucky and received one with good fret work ( no sprouting or high frets ).
First I bought an Audere preamp on the classified, the oem pickups are really noisy so I bought a set of Bartolini 57J1 L/S
and installed them yesterday I now have a Super J :bassist:

HB7 Detuner, Custom headstock logo, New Alpha 250k pots, Switchcraft jack, Multi-Cap tone switch with 1 Orange Drop .047, 1 Paper/oil .01, and 1 ceramic disk .0047 capacitors, and strat style volume and tone knobs.

Just order some carbon fiber wrap to cover the white pickguard.

Jweber, I dont believe the Jag SS pups are the Duncan designed pups. I think those are only on the Black Jag Special.

The DFs are a definite step above the stockers. I originally just wanted to replace the J pup but since they come in a P/J set I did both. The J rocks and comes thru when blended with the P. The P is a bit hotter then the stock pup and isnt as "hollow". Fuller and louder. Here is my review of them from the pickup forum.

I've pretty much sealed the deal on a Squier Affinity-P. I think it's an '03. One of the tuners is loose/shaky and the pickguard is smashed where the jack is. It's also plastered with a bunch of lame stickers, and has strings that feel like they have never been changed.

Anyways, I'm going to fix it up and this thread has been inspirational, to say the least. There are some really nice Squiers out there!

LOVE IT. I also have a standard special PJ squier (walnut satin).

Did the VM fretless neck sit up perfectly without any tweaking? Just unscrew the standard neck and screw-in the VM neck?

And what about the dimarzio pickups? Do you like them? Have you also replaced the stock pots of the bass?

Finally, what strings are you using?

Thanks. They are Lace Alumitones. They sound even better than the demos I heard before I bought them. Big, deep, crystal clear lows off the "P" and the "J" brings in all the mids and highs one would want. Also have each of them connected to its own StellarTone ToneStyler giving me more tonal variation than any other bass I own.

The neck was direct swap. The tone pots are stock. I have had mixed success with stock squier pots. These ones work okay; I notice that the volume doesnt swell smoothly on; it goes from nothing to a significant volume rather than a smooth increase from nothingness. Only matters for doing volume swells. Not even sure if pots would change this. I cant imagine what else would affect this.

I love the dimarzios. I use them on 3 basses. A P with an Model P, a PJ with the Model PJ set, and a PJ with what appears to be a model P and an ultra J. All sound great.
