Double Bass Trigger finger

Same here. Had the surgery 10 years ago. It was an outpatient proceudre that was done in under 10 minutes. I have had no recurrence and am extremely satisfied with the procedure. Note - you will have to stretch and perform some physical therapy after the procedure, but it is not major, and I have had a return to full range of motion.

Good luck!
Could I ask if you play primarily upright or electric? I had the surgery in ‘24, and I haven’t played upright since then out of concern for possible recurrence. Now I’ve read that recurrence after surgery is pretty low (around 2%). Thank you.

I play exclusively electric these days. I started out on upright, but it has been many, many moons since I played one. I hope you are doing well after your surgery!

My trigger finger situation was pretty stable and workable until about 6 months ago when arthritis combined with trigger in my right hand index finger. Ironically it hasn't hurt my double bass playing because I don't have to bend that finger for pizz, slap or arco. But all my other instruments are suffering...

And I've tried everything except trigger finger surgery, which I'll be aiming at after the festival season is over this year. It seems like no other reasonable option.

I play EB and DB…although I haven’t touched the upright for quite a while. After going through steroids for almost a year, I had the surgery. It takes a while to get confidence back. I was back to gigging a few weeks after. It’s not 100%. It probably will never be. I did a lot of rehab. Happy I did it. But the prospect of upright is still daunting. There is still mild inflammation in my middle finger middle knuckle. I think the more lateral motion of my finger on the strings vs electric would be more of a problem.
I’ll give it a few more months before I give it another go.
