Trouble with a custom build

The Octave Inlay was visibly removed and fudged back in?? That alone would be enough for me.

The bass is permanently boogered! Send it back for refund and find a different builder.

That and give us the name so no one else has to suffer through this.

Someone else's poor quality shouldn't stop you from wanting to build your own bass.

You're right but at the same time, if a builder that is already making custom basses and is charging people good money (assumption) has these kind of issues, then my inexperience will certainly show. Unfortunately, I'm of the perfectionist sort being a land surveyor/civil engineer, so I will be unhappy with less than perfect results. I may still give a prefab a go just to see where I stand before I try to take on the FULL project.

Read my post before I replied to yours. I've seen this in Luthiers Corner where someone builds a couple basses and thinks they are ready to go to market. They post photos of their builds that do not show the mistakes and people decide to buy from them. Like I said, I was at least 20 builds in before I considered selling my guitars. This builder either has no pride or he is completely clueless as to his build flaws due to inexperience.

Just remember, Carl Thompson, Rodger Sadowsky and every other amazing builder, built a few instruments that were pretty bad when they first started out.

I can understand that mistakes are made by everyone, but this seems to have too many of them to be acceptable. A string change isn't complete without an intonation, let alone a build. If he had intonated it, he would have seen the error with the bridge placement and moved it. If the old screw holes were hidden by the bridge, who would have even suspected it?

Friends, I know we all want to see the right thing happen but I have absolutely zero interest in blowing up someone's phone or mailbox. I want a killer bass or my card refunded.

The only reason I would share the builder's info is if I was blown away by excellent quality or to warn people to avoid the builder / brand.

If it looks like a virtual mob is gonna go after him I am not going to contribute to that and I'll just update with the resolution whatever it ends up being.

No mob justice please.

It's in his profile history anyways. It's a guy that should know what he's doing. It's not a one-off special build.

What I would LIKE to tell them is how this ends up being resolved, and a gang of people that don't have half a month's pay on the line tripping over themselves to throw shade aren't going to help get there.

That's not at issue the finish is 100% what I was looking for here, might not be to your preference but that isn't even remotely a concern.

Looks and feel are spot on fine. Got what I wanted happy on those fronts. The issue is inability to intonate and goofy inlay / position.
