Well, I had tried Brian Dekebach for a fret level and unfortunately I have to say that I was disappointed. The bass just needed a little work in the upper frets, but instead he leveled all of them. Now I'm left with inconsistencies all over the neck and two noticeably high frets at the 4th and 6th frets.
I also gave him specs for how I'd like the instrument set up with a specified relief. However, because he didn't believe in shims, he removed the shim and cheated me on the relief in order to get the action I specified. I was left with a bass that buzzed horribly in frets 4-10.
I don't even want to get started about the very small chip I found in the headstock. And along with the awkward and sometimes crass interactions I've had with him, I will never go back.
If my instrument was cheap I'm sure the work done would've been comparatively better. However, my instrument played pretty well before and now it's worse.
