Trying a 'new' right hand muting technique

This is a muting technique for six string bass I am working on lately. I dampen the B string with the base of my right hand and make the open E, and D strings short with my thumb while playing with index and middle fingers on the G and C string. Not easy, but very useful for playing chords and arpeggios. Especially when you don't want to turn it in blurring mess. :)

The floating thumb/four finger technique with little more palm added.

It's not the same and I don't apply (real) palm muting in this case. What I do is make the notes that I play with my thumb (open strings) short by placing the thumb immediately back after I have played them. This is to prevent them from ringing through. Otherwise the open strings will ring over each other which results in a mess. You can see that in the video. This is a classical guitar technique. I also damp the lower string that I don't play with the palm of my right hand. I hope this makes it more clear?
