Trying to achieve a bass sequencer like tone

I really like the bass sounds in these 2 songs. I'm told they're either bass sequencers or keyboard bass...

How could I cop this tone on a bass? My instincts say tons of compression and flatwound strings. Anyone think I'm missing something? I'm new to effects...

First off, you'll have to monkey around a lot with your EQ settings. I might recommend a filter and/or octaver for further tone shaping. Having bigger speakers helps add to the punch, too.

Using a pick on some flatwounds and compression somewhere would also help, I'd think.

You could do these live with just a regular electric bass. Roll your tone down, play like the song. Pirate Jet sounds to me like flats and heavy compression, there is synth in the background. D'angelo sounds to me like a dirty tube amp.
