Double Bass Trying to decide between Acoustic Image DoubleShot vs Raezer's Edge cab

I m ready to pull the trigger on either a new AI DoubleShot cab or a new Raezer's Edge cab for use with double bass - primary settings - Swing Band / Music Theater Pit / Trio and quartet settings small to medium venues.
My primary amplifier of choice is an AI Clarus 1 Series iii.

Does anyone have experience using the AI DoubleShot and/or Raezer's Edge 110 or 112 cabs in similar situations?

Looking for Pro's and Con's of each and / or any other observations other TB'ers might of have on either cab.

I use the Raezer's Edge Bass 12 speaker with an AI Clarus SL2 in bigband, gipsy jazz quartet and trio settings. The combination works perfect, does all the work flawlessly. For bigband, I also hooked up an AI Upshot as a personal monitor (pre-DoubleShot-era, now sold) and am even contemplating on adding a DoubleShot. I have checked with AI and the different impedancies are no problem. This would offer me a highly flexible, modular system to use in a variety of settings. I might just add that the Raezer's Edge is rather heavy, but to paraphrase a certain character from a certain movie: 'heavy is good, heavy is reliable'. Not only that: the Raezer's Edge Bass 12 is voiced perfectly for double bass. I am lookig forward to couple it with the DoubleShot.

I love the AI heads, but all of the AI cabs tend to put a primary emphasis on light weight and error on the side of too polite and gentle. Paired with any other brand of cabinets they roar and rarely let you down.

Whaaaatttttttt???????????? It is a single 12 that weighs 35 lbs; it is not like you are dragging around an Ampeg SVT 8 x 10 cabinet. This is why we are flooded with mediocre performing utralight cabs that continuously fail on the job. Far more emphasis should be on performance and less on weight.

I had a double shot and found that it wasn’t enough for a bluegrass band by itself. Sound was too dispersed. Not familiar with RE cabs but that’s closer to what I use - Genzler Magellan 350 head and 1 or 2 10-2 array cabs.

thanks for the feedback - I'm curious - were you playing electric or upright bass with the AI Double Shot cab?

I've done the SVT / "fridge" deal... and the multiple 410 and 210 cab deal... these days I'm looking for light weight "grab and go" solutions...
For my 60+ year old body - the lighter the better as in less than 35 lbs - that still sounds decent at moderate volume levels... and for use with my upright running a Realist Pickup. For Electric gigs... I have a whole different set of criteria depending on the venue and style etc... ;)

Of course there are many options the GR Bass cabinets look promising. I’ve owned and tried just about all the Hi-Fi small footprint Bass cabinet. There is nothing wrong with with the AI Double Shot, I’ve listened to Ron Carter play one at Jacobs concert hall at Indiana University. It sounded great and I was pretty far back in the hall. Other players who’s opinion I greatly respect were right in front of the stage in the first rows. They loved the Double Shot and it was up on a round table at least 5’ of the stage. My go to is the MAS 1/8 although I have the powered versions, a non powered one is a hands down the best DB/EB cabinet with a smaller lighter footprint. They are not cheap so that’s a consideration of course. I had mine up on chairs, back wedged under a table, on a small stage, and even outside next to a swimming pool playing a 5 String bass. Never let me down, always sounds incredible. Just my take of course. I paid regular prices for mine, so I receive no compensation from Mike whatsoever :)

Thanks Ric - Is Mike still building and selling his cabs? I was under the impression he was no longer in business - that could very well be a false impression ;)

I’ve heard that he is, but I have no personal conformation. From visiting his Facebook page, it sounds like he’s eventually moving to Green Bay Wisconsin. Once he get’s settled he might likely set up a shop there. One thing I will say is that, like the VL 108’s you only very occasionally see. MAS 1/8 for sale on Talkbass or Reverb. Perhaps that speaks to the fact
That players are holding on to them because they sound great.
