And those reading it will see the spec of 32ms as the absolute lowest latency possibly using a very specific technology stack in both the sender and receiver, and even at that it states that for music it is generally considered best to run the latency settings at 60ms (or was it 50ms?)... which I would presume is to avoid glitches or errors of some kind, or possibly some form of inconsistency in the latency when running closer to their current tech limit of 32ms.
32ms is not acceptable latency for playing music in real time.... you can hear it and feel it, although at FIRST LISTEN in a store it might seem to be perfectly real time, you will quickly get annoyed by the timing issues when you start playing very time sensitive things. Also since the lag would be heard in your own bass's monitoring in your wireless headphones, it will start to drive you bonkers.
And 50ms is quite an obvious lag.
As an audio engineer, I use roughly 25ms and higher as an audible effect for stereo spreading through panned delays. Less than that and it becomes a comb filter when heard alongside the undelayed signal if there is any blend between left and right (or if you are monitoring through speakers rather than headphones).
So with BT5 even with the fancy tricks being used to minimize latency, they still can't get it low enough to be truly satisfactory. You can probably live with it in many situations, but it would drive me nuts I know.
However, if anybody DOES release a product, or has already, using that latency value, and ALL audio goes through that delay including the instrument you are playing, then it will be interesting to try it out at a store.
Maybe it is fast enough for some people to be happy with!
SIDE QUESTION:
I wonder if there is older, no longer popular, wireless headphone tech that has lower latency than 32ms?
Was analog radio faster?
What about the light transmission wireless headphones?
I've always wondered about those systems for this type of product.
