TSO (Tele Shaped Object) project started

Thanks guys - I appreciate the kind words !

I whipped up a quick pickguard for it. This is a really cool bass at ANY price...but it's even cooler that it cost me less than $100 to build !

looks good mate. how is the balance?
That's the only thing that stops me from going for a tele bass (an actual copy of the electric telecaster, not some ugly thing)

Thanks for the kind words.

Balances just fine - I use a 3" wide strap, no issues. The body is medium weight - 4.5 or 5 lbs ...and the tuners are light. Between the medium weight, the light tuners, and the slightly oversized body, this hangs quite comfortably on a strap.

Did you build the neck, or did you have it lying around? The neck looks really good and I am trying to figure out how you built it for $100 if you had to buy it.

It was an old Squier neck that I paid $25 for. I stripped it, reshaped the headstock, and smoothed the neck/headstock transition. I'll eventually shoot it in nitro, but I just put a quick coat of shellac on it for now, since I want to use it for this weekends gigs.

Looks great, I still think a black white black pick guard would look even better, but thats just one mans opinion. Great job, its simple and elegant.

You got me thinking my next project may have to be a tele bass, black on black with a maple board.
