When my band was playing smaller gigs I stuck with 350w Class D > 2x10 cab, sometimes with a line to the FOH, sometimes not. When we started playing bigger gigs I had to up it to 500w Class D > two 2x10 cabs.
Now we're playing bigger gigs, and although I expect to line out to the FOH everytime, I want to upsize again nonetheless. Doing my research, I noticed that manufacturers of tube amps use language like "earth shattering" "bone shaking" "stadium filling" in reference to 350w amps.
For example the Fender Bassman 500 is a 500w Class D amp with no such claims. But the much more expensive Super Bassman tube amp is a 350w amp that apparently fills super large venues.
What gives? Are tube amps louder than Class D?
Bonus question: Do micro amps really compare in tone to tube amps?
