tube emulator pedal, any idea?

I have a Stingray Ray 5 and I love the sound but when I plug into a SansAmp bass driver or the cheapest Behringer BDI21 tube driver, I really hate my sound. I notice that my active bass doesn't sound good like my pasive basses but I really want to use my stingray to play. It doesn't sound like a tube and sound distorted all the time. I put the bass flat, the amp flat, close the drive knob but doesn't work at all Any other device that can emulate tube amp than cost under $200?

I would like something with that kind of fat ampeg sound but not a distorted sound.

Definitely look at the Catalinbread SFT, as nshuman already mentioned. Also, VFE is going to be adding the Ginger from Runoffgroove to their custom shop soon.

You can try the VT bass. That is tons better than the BDDI IMO. There is the SFT as Shu named above. Those are both be modeled off the SVT tone. Surprisingly the Zoom ms60b has an SVT patch that gets really close. My Source Audio PEQ will get me almost there too. Then you have the Joyo stuff. The American is a favorite by many right now. Its not really an Ampeg emulator at all, but it can get in the ballpark of a tube head. $35 shipped from some places. Those are the ones that come to mind when I think of Ampeg emulators. The BK Butler Blue Tube is a good one too. I like mine.

Oh yes, the that GInger is a good one I hear. Also, there is a company Im sure y'all can help me remember for the OP, they make the Fliptop pedal. It may be the GInger for all I remember. Then you also have the Swell Bpeg and so forth. And the EBS Valve Drive. There are tons out there. But not all with give you that "Ampeg" sound.

Dude, its almost like its meant for bass. It has a three band EQ that has more than enough bass go around. Very fat.

I would check out the SolidgoldFX Beta as well. Gets a real nice deep subtle overdrive if so desired.

Sounds to me that your issue is the hotter output of the Stingray vs your passive basses. In which case, don't bother with the SFT as it doesn't like hot basses either!

I have the vintage and I like it, thought the fact is - I hardly use it. I really like how my amp/cab sound and so pedal is rather... superfluous.

Yes I like how it sounds. But the concept of the band requires to me to add some vintage growl now.
