Tube Preamp

I've seen some Presonus mic pres. I'm not after any overdrive, just some nice tube warmth. It seems to me that a bass more closely resembles the range of the human voice that a guitar or keyboard so I wouldn't think it would damage the unit, but I was hoping to get some opinions.
Gotcha. Typically, musician-level preamps marketed as mic pres are either combination mic/instrument preamps or preamp/DIs, or else mic/instrument channel strips. Most will handle instrument-level inputs (such as electric bass or guitar), and some will even handle line-level signals.
Look for an instrument input, a signal level selector (mic/instr or mic/instr/line), or just check the manual. If you have the brand and model #, you can usually chase down the description, some basic specs, and a review or two at Sweetwater or other online sellers.

If you want ot try something on the cheap scope the classifieds here. I have an Art Tube Channel listed. I refer to it as the poor man's Demeter.
I suggest you pop over into the Effects forum with this question. There are a ton of different tube preamps and DI boxes out there that will accomplish what you are looking for, and a whole bunch of people with extensive experience using them. You'll get a lot more responses and questions.
