Tube Watts vs SS Watts

Ok... if my amp makes 1000 watts, the horsepower is 1000/746 = 1.34.
In order to derive my amp's torque, I would need to know how fast it is
spinning at the 1.34 horsepower. As far as I can tell, it is 0 RPM.
The quick torque and horsepower conversion is HP = (torque×RPM)/5252

So I end up with torque = 7040/0. Not sure how to do that.
Why not use the frequency that the amp is amplifying?

There is no standards policing body checking company claims about wattage. Therefore, there's a lot of corporate misinformation and flat out lies. Some claim peak wattage when RMS is a much more useful number, and typically half of the peak rating. Even when reporting both Peak and RMS, there are ways to fudge the numbers, and fudging is the norm in the SS industry.

Before tube amps, tubes were used in everything, like scientific instruments and military gear, so tube specs were strictly defined, and actual output known without question. The tube types haven't changed much since then, and the correct specs persist.

For some reason I don't understand or care about, when SS tech came into use, companies found wiggle room and abused it.

So what a watt is, is strictly defined. How shady companies measure and report wattage, is not.

Heard that a lower watt tube head can be just as powerful as a SS head at a much higher wattage. How would 300 tube watts compare to 1000 solid state watts?

As many have stated, a watt is a watt is a watt. The important distinction is that amps are rated for clean power. We like tube distortion, solid state not so much.

In other words, max tube watts are where the party starts, max solid state watts are where the cops show up. :D

Vintage watts have better tone than brand new watts. You have to break in the watts for a while to make sure you get everything out of them. Of course, worn out watts don't sound good and are really tough to replace. NOS watts cost a fortune and can be very hard to find. It doesn't matter if they come out of tubes or transistors so long as they are vintage and the magic smoke stays inside. When you plug into the wall, make sure you have a vintage magic smoke circuit, otherwise you will lessen the effect of the vintage watts you have spent all that time and effort getting to the pinnacle of toniness.

I feel like I just got a shotgun blast of watt knowledge to the face! I wonder what a mix of NOS watts and brand new watts gets you?

James Watt. Solid state. He was louder if you put him in a tube.

Well, if you played through a Leslie, the question of torque would make more sense, although it would depend on what speed setting you had it on.

You can wiggle with tubes, too. The new Ampeg "50 watt" PF50T is rated 50 watts RMS at 20% total harmonic distortion (THD) (probably at 1kHz)...basically well into clipping. I'll take a swag that if it was rated like a hi-fi amp...20Hz-20kHz at less than 1% THD...it would probably be more like 25 watts.

When I owned my 1961 Fender Bassman head although it was rated at 50 watts RMS (110 watts "peak music power", what the amp can do for short bursts vs. continuous signals), on the bench it started to clip at just over 30 watts.
