Tube Works Mostvalve poweramps question

How loud are they? I from what I have read Mos Valve solid power amps simulate tube amps. Does this mean that it simulates the early distortion tube amps gets that makes us perceive that it is louder then it really is(or what ever it does)? If so would this mean a 300 watt Mos valve power amp is as loud as a 300 watt tube power amp?


(I apologize if this makes no sense its late and I am tired :) )

I have mosvalve 7200 combo rated 175W at 8 ohms I believe. I played in open space almost 50 feet wide open and it could be heard loud and clear. I think it's definitely louder than what it's rated. BTW mine has option to select between tube preamp and mosfet....
I'm not sure about distortion but it gets pretty close to tube tone.

Hi.

Don't know about that particular amp, but any commercial A/B SS amp has the same kind of clipping characteristics, ie sounds like a table saw when clipping ;).

The mos-fet is just another transistor, which distortion characteristics and linearity happens to be similar to tubes. To some ears it might sound like there's tube(s) there.

Agreed mos-fets tend to sound less harsh compared with some other SS designs, but as a lot depends of the overall design, the mos-fets alone won't guarantee a "good" sound.

which model? i've got the mv-962 - works fantastic as a guitar head with preamp modellers OR mesa v-twin - easily as loud through a 4x12 as a 100 watt tube head.

with bass, it doesn't have enough volume for me to use for anything more than soft practice with a cd.
