In all discussions like this we must never forget or underestimate the huge role that our individual unique minds play via psychoacoustics. We may hear the "macro" things more or less the same but we don't all hear the micro things the same way.

My feeling is there is no point in being tribal. I own a variety of tube amps, solid state amps, and hybrids. They all sound awesome for different reasons. My advice is stop worrying about this. Play a bunch of amps and choose the one(s) you prefer. If you are like me, you will prefer different amps for different situations.
Confusing. Does an audio amplifier exist that does not use a transformer?
That's a good point. Old solid state amps don't sound like new ones, eg. I wonder what a newly made SS>tube amp would sound like...

Yes, most solid state amps do not have audio transformers.
I didn’t see “audio” in the original poll.
However the designer intends.
There are folks who hear things that aren’t there. That’s why double-blind tests are used, to be sure there really is a difference rather than merely a perception.
Portland's own, for a minute, Patrick O'Hearn on bass!

Most amplifiers have transformers in the power section, tube amplifiers usually also have transformers in the audio signal path. There's a type of tube amp called "output transformerless" (OTL) which does not put the audio signal through a transformer. You won't see them in pro audio or instrument amps because they're even more unwieldy than conventional tube amps, they tend to work better with very high speaker impedances, and basically the point of OTL amps is to reduce distortion, but musicians generally want tube instrument amps specifically because they distort in particular ways.Confusing. I was a tube snob until I got a WD800.
Thoughts?

... galvanic isolation....Power transformers (assuming the designs are competent) have very little effect on the audio....
