Tuner app for Android: plug straight in?

I have this cable that is a USB on one end (it fits my Pixel 6a) and a 1/4" on the other. I thought it'd be great to use a tuner app and plug straight in to avoid ambient noise, but it doesn't work on any of my tuner apps (Waves and Boss). Anyone ever successfully made this work?

Have you been plugging your bass directly into the adapter, or a preamp first? My guess is that you might need to get it to line level. You might also need to verify that it's an input adaptor (rather than output.) Or, maye try not putting the plug in all the way.
