the tuning heads on my christopher 304 db feel almost like they are rusted when they turn (they arent tho), and feel like they desperately need some sort of lubrication. any recommendations? wd40?

WD-40 is actually a degreaser, so it may effect a temporary cure, but I've had lasting results with Tri-flo, a general light oil sold as bicycle chain lube. It's teflon-based, & available at hardware stores(& bike shops).
Yeah, I peeked at your public profile & saw you mountain bike(me too, woohoo). I wonder if chain wax might also work well but not attract dust...

Petroleum jelly applied with cotton bud on gears with excess wiped off afterwards has always worked for me.
Graphite dust is a great dry lubricant between pegs and peg box. Don't use anything here that will swell the wood and make pegs bind even more.
WD40 is a light oil, too light to be much use as a lubricant. It is not recommended for door locks or padlocks because it combines with dirt to make a sticky mess. Graphite is a much better solution here.

i was looking for bike oil, but found some sewing machine oil, might give that a try... thats a fender jagbass(whoho!) on the band homepage

Regardless of what you decide to use, use as little as possible to get the job done. There's nothing quite like getting grease or oil on your nice white tux shirt while you're playing a job.
