tuning question

I'm in tune on the open string, but out of tune on the 5th and 10th. Is this a technique problem or an equipment problem?

Context:
I'm using a Korg plug-in tuner (not a pedal or a clip on).
I'm tuning with both neck and bridge pickups live.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

I leave this to a tech, cost about $30 in my area. Yep, you need a setup. Probably will have to leave it overnight. As to doing it yourself, I have to do the "right to tight" thing so it's best if I stay away from stuff like this.

If you are beyond the "right to tight" thing give it a try, the techs are always there should you need them.

It's probably a setup problem if you play fretted bass, and probably a technique problem if you play fretless. ;)

It is possible it is a technique problem even on a properly-intonated electric. I have in very rare cases seen players who apply way too much force to the strings and bend the fretted notes sharp. All the more reason to play with a light, controlled touch. :)
