Tuning Retardation

Hi, Am a new to the bass about 6 months into it really. I have a case of Tuning Retardation looking for "F" for Drop C and I sapped my D string for the second time now. What How much can a .65 ganged String range should be so I don't do it the three freaking times. luckly for me I found a great website that I can buy a Just a D strings or any I need.

You should be leaving the D string tuned to D for C A D G,
or lowering it a whole step for C G C F.
How are you trying to tune it?

Breaking at the same place? You probably have a burr/sharp spot where it's breaking.
