Turning two J pickups into a humbucker!?

I am sure you could find an aftermarket pickup manufacturer who produces MIM sized jazz pickups, though i can't think of any specific ones offhand. Can anyone think of any?

If I am not mistaken, the difference in length for MIA pickups between the neck and bridge is only 1/8", which is pretty negligable anyways, so the pole should line up well enough. Therefore i am sure you could just glue a set of jazz pickups together - correct me if i am wrong :S

In theory, this sounds great, but you need to consider a couple of things.

Not all MIM Jazzes had two of the same-sized pickups - that was just an artifact of the days when they first started making them. I don't know when they stopped the two of one size thing, but I know they made them this way through the mid-90's.

The other really important thing about the pickups on those jazzes, they were not humbucking. They were literally just two of the same pickup; not reverse wound reverse polarity, but instead, two identically-sized, identically-wound pickups put into the same bass. If you use these, you won't get the effect you desire...

Hey hey,
Done it, like it, and would do it again. Found most of the covers are ABS plastic so the ABS glue in the plumbing dept works very well for the covers after you grind off the tab. Schaller had a double J back in the 70's that I have recreated from a pair of DM Model J's. That is another way to get full hum cancel. An on-on-on switch wil give you Series - SC - Par. To get the reverse wind - just install one of the J's upside down.

Haven't done it with the single coils yet, but am looking for an excuse to try it. Have a coupel sets of Fender pu's just waiting.

It does work, but is confusing a bit. Where did I loose you?

Series - switch connects the Y & G.
Split - switch connects W & G & Y to -.
Par - switch connects G & B, W & Y.

W is always ground, B is always +.

I can't imagine it would sound any good like that though?

Split mode would be like a weak P bass pickup ran parallel.

In Parallel mode, your DC resistance would be like 850 ohms if these are Model Js.

This was designed and used on the Kramers and I like it. The Par and Split do sound similar and more single coilish. Adds varying degrees of clarity to the series sound. I measured dc resistance when I put this together back when, got that around somewhere... Not sure if it went that low, but it does still work. On the black one pictured I put a P pup in there as well so use the dpdt as a pup selector instead (neck/both/bridge) and us push-pull pots for ser/par on each of the pups. Like that even better. It is a fun bass to play.

I would like to create a humbucker pickup with two single coil jazz pickup, for a PJ, and wire it with a 3 way switch:
- SC 60 position / Serie mode / SC 70 position

The neck pickup will be a Duncan SPB1 so I want SJB1 for the bridge pickup.

Is it possible to use two Duncan SJB1s bridge pickups? or I have to choose another pickups?... i don't really understand the RWRP system and I ask to myself if it's necessary for the config i want...
