Double Bass Tuxedo advice please!

Hi,

I've gone back to school this year after a few years of playing full-time. The transition has been good,but I've never played in an orchestra before.

I need a tux for concerts. Can you please tell me about standard orchestra tuxedos, and any advice on getting one cheap? Thanks,

Coupla thoughts:

1) In Winnipeg -- actually an old needle trade centre, at its peak in the early to mid 20th century -- there was a tailor in the north end who could make anything. He made "stage tuxedos" that were not meant to be looked at up close, if you get my drift. They were cheap, cheap, cheap and very popular with musicians who played on faraway stages. Maybe you've got something like that in TO?;

2) I scored a great tuxedo this time last year at a local joint that rents mostly for weddings and grads. With those events mostly happening in the spring and summer, autumn is blow-out time for those places and I got totally outfitted for about 150 canuckbucks.

Off topic. Went to the Creaking Tree site. Brilliant work. I'll have to keep checking it to see when you are playing back in the Southern Ontario area.

I actually bought my performance tux on ebay. About $160 after the alterations and such.

Not the finest of quality, but works wonderfully for the purpose used.

You can usually find OK used perfomance and regular tuxes at rental places.....when they start looking a bit ratty, they put 'em on the sale rack.
