"Twang" on my open D string: La Bella DTF?

I have some annoying "twang" on the open D string, with La Bella DTF 760L strings.

It does not sound like fret-buzz, rather more like an extra large dose of "twang" that open strings seem to give. I pressed hard on both the nut and saddle to double-check the "witness" point. Also loosened the string, in case anything was twisted. No joy.

I usually play fretted notes, so I really only hear it when tuning. Don't think my prior Ernie Ball rounds did that, so maybe a bad string, or I twisted it beyond repair when installing.

Is this similar to what some people would call "sitar effect"? There have been a few threads regarding that particular phenomenon.
