"Twang" on my open D string: La Bella DTF?

I have some annoying "twang" on the open D string, with La Bella DTF 760L strings.

It does not sound like fret-buzz, rather more like an extra large dose of "twang" that open strings seem to give. I pressed hard on both the nut and saddle to double-check the "witness" point. Also loosened the string, in case anything was twisted. No joy.

I usually play fretted notes, so I really only hear it when tuning. Don't think my prior Ernie Ball rounds did that, so maybe a bad string, or I twisted it beyond repair when installing.

Is this similar to what some people would call "sitar effect"? There have been a few threads regarding that particular phenomenon.

Yep. I am thinking something is rattling (a wire?) since the effect is most pronounced when in perfect tune on the D.

FYI, based on this being an occasional problem with La Bella flats, I contacted La Bella. Fingers crossed!

I had something like this on a DTF 760FL G string. Didn't know it was a LaBella issue, so I just ditched the whole set and put on a set D'Addario Chromes that have been on ever since.
