Tweeters Off, none for me Thanks

:smug: I turned the tweeters completely off on my two 2x10 cabs.
because I figure Hey, I play Bass, Why do I need tweeters? They're only gonna take away from the warm tone I'm trying to achieve anyhow, AND, back in the day Bass players didn't have tweeters in the cabs and they sounded perfectly fine; I would go as far as to say even better.;)
IME, playing covers you play for the song and the venue whatever tone is required including tweeters or not. Playing originals, have at it.

More power to you! Better? For you, yes. For me, no. To each his own.

The high end from your cabinet helps define the low end. Without it you are making mush, much like the bass rigs of yesteryear. If you don't like the sound from a horn tweeter find some other way of communicating the high frequency information, it really does need to be there...
Hey, hey....my yesterig(shortened it up) never produced cereal! My real '64 Jazz Bass, played with a pick, and my Sunn 2000s with JBL D140 15s(1 cab, and sometimes 2) were the epitome of clean. Lots of volume, set well in the mix (I went FOH regularly) and added no cereal anywhere, anytime. No tweeters needed. A few years ago I recreated my rig and it still sounds fine!

I get that styles change and cab makers have to keep up. If I bought a cab today it would definitely have an adjustable tweeter. Hey, I even have a bass with an active 3 band eq...who would a thunk it after playing passive for decades.

Also, there are lots of cabs sold without tweeter(s) today that have been referenced in many TB threads that pound it out, night after night and sit with the mix fine.

Be careful maligning your elders or we'll have to yell at you to get off the lawn!

LOL.:roflmao:

This thread somehow conjures this up in my head...
