Tweeters on Glockenklang cabinet

Hi,

I would like to know more from about the tweeters that equipped the glockenklang cabinets.

Tell me if anything I said is wrong.

The one found on the bassware line is a Foster/fostex that is common to over brands cabinet.
The second one with a "soft dome" is for the bassline cabinets. It seems to be a sort of reissue of the RCF "yellow" one that equipped the older bassline cabinet from Glockenklang.

I suppose the "soft dome" is more Hifi. I have read somewhere it is perhaps more omnidirectionel than the Foster unidirectional.

Is there any advantage the Foster can have in some circonstances ? like more cut through the mix ? More power handling ? Better sound at high volume ? Etc...

The foster/fostex is like most of these small horn for the frequency content upwards of 4khz.
The 2" dome can go much lower and therefore an ideal partner for 12" or 15" drivers. The average 2" dome has a range of 800hz to 10khz, but in a basscabinet I wouldn't use it lower then 1.5khz due to limited power handling.
IMO a well designed 2" dome makes much more sense in a basscabinet then the tweeters you normally see. For DIY-ers I have an interesting 2"dome-mid (with an average sensitivty of 94dB 2.83v/1mtr) tested in a German loudspeaker magazine. I'll look it up and post the brand/type here.

My guess would be the horn equiped cab is more aimed at those who expect/like that traditional frequency gap between the woofer and tweeter.

I was not aware of that mid capabilities of the 2 dome tweeter.
In the Glockenklang cabs it implies the croosover is lower in the cabs using the soft dome; not sure if they have done that...

I suppose on the Foster the highs are more separate from the woofer low/mid but isn't a question of crossover more than tweeter ?

It's both, but the tweeter's physical abilities determine the lowest possible crossover point.

Thanks very much Arjank, these informations are usefull.

Also do the dome tweeter can handle a high wattage ? Same, less or better than the Foster ?
I know a few factors are involved, but if someone know don' t hesitate.

You should listen to the cabinets. I own a pair of Bass Art Classic cabinets (2"dome) and used to own a pair of duos (Foster), and have played the double. I much prefer the Bass Art Classic MKII to either of the others, (which were not bad at all). I have heard the Acoustic Art is also exceptional. So, technical specs aside, I see the 2" soft dome in two great cabinets. There are a lot of factors that go into the design, but it seems that their best cabinets use the 2" dome.

Ciare makes a few soft dome tweeters that are 94db and pretty meaty (300w) and can be used for 1500-2000hz crossover cut. I had one, sounded great.
I know that the old Glock soft dome was made by RCF but don't think it's available anymore.

The one you mean is a 1.5" dome and shouldn't be used lower then 2khz (fs is 1.13khz) and at least 18db/oct.

IMO it would be a good partner for a high quality 12"driver in a 112.

Yes, those were the ones with the waveguide, these aren't made anymore.

I do not like the sound of tweeters or piezo. I followed Arjank’s advise and bought a Ciare HM500 Midrange Dome and installed it in a small amp enclosure... with a Jantzen 12,00 uF cross cap in series. Combined with 12” BagEnd... fantastic Glock sound.
